Located in the core beach tourism area of the Maldives, this project addresses the surging electricity demand from surrounding businesses driven by the rapid growth of the tourism industry. These businesses frequently face issues such as insufficient grid power and sudden power outages. The project deployed a 135kW/261kWh hybrid grid-connected and off-grid liquid-cooled energy storage system. Operating under a “self-generation for self-consumption, with surplus power stored” model, it enables seamless switching between grid-connected and off-grid modes, completely resolving power shortages and ensuring the normal operations of local businesses.

The Maldives is rich in solar resources, and the project site enjoys ample annual sunshine, making it ideal for the construction of a photovoltaic energy storage system. This project establishes a “PV + liquid-cooled energy storage” microgrid to provide merchants with stable, round-the-clock power supply. It is well-suited to the local maritime climate, reduces reliance on diesel power generation, and aligns with the green development strategy.

2.2 Uwezo uliowekwa

The project features a 135 kWp PV system and a storage system with a rated power of 135 kW and a storage capacity of 261 kWh. Utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery packs, the system meets merchants’ daily electricity needs while reserving excess storage capacity to address peak tourism seasons and grid outages.

2.3 Vifaa Muhimu

Liquid-Cooled Integrated Energy Storage Cabinet: One outdoor-rated cabinet integrates core equipment with an IP55 protection rating and C4-grade corrosion resistance to withstand high-salt-fog and high-humidity environments. Its compact design is suitable for the limited space available on the beach.

Photovoltaic-Storage Inverter Combination Unit: With a rated power of 135 kW, it supports millisecond-level switching between grid-tied and off-grid modes and features a built-in high-efficiency MPPT controller to ensure optimal power generation efficiency of the photovoltaic system.

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) Battery System: Total capacity of 261 kWh, utilizing 314Ah cells. Features a long cycle life and high safety, providing core energy assurance for the system’s off-grid operation.

Liquid-Cooled Temperature Control System: Equipped with a 5 kW precision liquid-cooling unit using PFPE technology. Maintains a cell temperature difference of ≤3°C to extend battery life, with low self-consumption, making it suitable for local high-temperature environments.

Smart EMS System: Continuously monitors power generation, storage, and consumption; automatically adjusts charging and discharging strategies; supports remote monitoring and maintenance; and optimizes the system’s economic operation.

Fire Protection and Safety System: Equipped with a pack-level aerosol fire suppression system and various protective devices; features explosion-proof, anti-condensation, and anti-corrosion designs to ensure safe system operation.

Safe, Reliable, and Highly Adaptable Power Supply: Millisecond-level grid-tied/off-grid switching completely resolves power outage issues; liquid cooling and high-protection design are suited for marine climates, with multiple international certifications ensuring safe operation.

Smart, Efficient, and Cost-Effective: Prioritizes the use of green PV power, reducing electricity bills for merchants and local energy costs; the EMS system optimizes operations, shortening the return on investment cycle.

Flexible Scalability to Meet Demands: Modular design allows for flexible expansion of capacity by adding equipment; supports parallel connection of multiple energy storage cabinets to accommodate growing power consumption needs.

Maintenance-Free and Low O&M Costs: Industrial-grade equipment ensures high reliability; the closed-loop liquid cooling system requires minimal maintenance; supports remote monitoring, significantly reducing operational and maintenance costs.
